Splitting the Atom by Aaron Holst, Senior Poet Laureate of Colorado

In my dream

Rutherford bombs nitrogen

with hordes of alphas  Impels its surrender

An old Japanese man  the one who sells

handmade sandals on

Hiroshima’s streets

shakes his

head and

shivers

chilled

by

the

unborn

screams
